Background: Bethanin is one of the natural pigment found in some fruits and vegetables. Natural pigment such as betanin are known to form complexes with metals. This reaction for the formation of Bethanine-Metal complexes can be used as an alternative in metal analysis, especially Pb using the Uv-Vis Spectrophotometry method. Natural pigments as complexing agents is expected to reduce the impact of pollution on the environment. Purpose: This study aims as a preliminary study of the use of betanin as a complexing compound in the analysis of Pb metal using the Uv-Vis Spectrophotometry method. Method: This research was conducted by reacting the Betanin solution with the solution. Pb standard, then the formed complex was measured its absorption using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry at its maximum wavelength. Results: The results showed that with various concentrations of the Pb standard solution, the absorbance of the Bethanin-Pb complex was in accordance with Lambert-Beer's law and the line equation Y = -0.0066x + 0.5388 with R2 = 0.9991. Conclusion: Based on the results of the research, it is known that Bethanin can be used as an alternative as a complexing compound in the analysis of Pb metal using the UV-Vis Spectrophotometry method.
